Retirement of a Netball Great: Tamsin Greenway. Cue the Next Generation

Charles Lawrence are interested in all things sports related, and like to keep up to date with all aspects of the sports that we cater for. With this in mind, this month we’re bidding farewell to the England netball mid-courter Tamsin Greenway, whose retirement from the sport last year lit the path for a new generation of netball stars. Tamsin Greenway: A career Tamsin made her debut on the England team in 2004 against South Africa and played her first Netball World Cup match in 2007, going on to represent England 67 times. Tamsin also won bronze medals in the Commonwealth Games of 2006, 2010 and in the Netball World Cups of 2011 and 2015. Tamsin’s career has been consistent throughout the years, with her only time off being in 2013 when the now 33-year-old gave birth to her first child, making a triumphant return to the game in April 2014. What next? While Tamsin has retired from all forms of playing netball, she is continuing to be involved in the sport by coaching the Surrey Storm team for the 2016 Vitality Netball Superleague season, and last month was reported to have replaced Australian coach Dan Ryan, who has had to abandon his post after just two months of work due to visa issues, as the head coach of the national under-21 side, a role she calls ‘an honour’.   The new generation While the England netball team were saddened by the loss of such a talented and dedicated athlete, Tamsin’s new role sees her nurturing the next generation of netball superstars, and with her fostering, we may even see a new competitor to rival her record. This year’s under-21 squad for the upcoming tour of Australia and the Netball Europe U21 Championships, which will be hosted in Scotland this October, has already been announced, with three of Tamsin’s team, Surrey Storm, making the cut. From everyone here at Charles Lawrence, congratulations to the girls who made the cut – we’ll be watching eagerly.
